Its Christmas Eve, everything is ready, tomorrow is the big day. But for some maybe not. For me, Christmas or the spirtit of Christmas waits until nexts week for the big day.
Like many, I will not be sharing Christmas with my childern, they will be with mum. A chat on the phone is my Christmas contact with my daughter. Not that I mind because on 27th December my daughter will be here until she returns to school in the first days of the new year. So we celebrate Christmans again, on 1st January every year. Two Christmas's....wow!
To many this may seem a wacky notion but it works, for parents and childern alike. O.K. so Santa has to make a special trip to my home, but he really does not mind. In fact I have it on good authority that he enjoys this second trip just as much as his big night on 24th.
I feel very fortunate that some years ago a family court judge granted me reasonable contact with my daughter. It had been a long struggle to get there, but perseverance paid off.
I am not lover of the way that relatioship breakdowns are managed by courts or couples, every case has its owns merits and hurdles. It is all to easy for dads in particular to give in to the stress. My
advice is hang on in there, after all, two Christmas's are far better than none.
