Saturday on ice

Gloucester is a pretty average town, unlike its neighbour Cheltenham which has been voted the UK town where people would like to live.
Gloucester's greatest claim to fame this year was that the city centre Xmas lights were stuck somewhere between here and Eastern Europe the day they were due to be switched on (in early December). They finally made it to illuminate the town centre in a rather haphazard fashion about 10 days late.
What was pretty cool, literally, was the ice rink built in Kings Square slap bang in the middle of the town centre, on the site of the old 60's fountains that had not worked for years.
Last year a larger rink was built on stilts above the old fountains and pools but it looked terrible. This year, though smaller, it was a much better job all round.
So this afternoon I was dragged along by my 10 y.o. daughter to have a twirl. I must say that I thought it was great, even though it was raining, which made the ice a little rough. I have never been on ice skates before, neither has my daughter but I was a roller skater in my long lost youth. I think that we both did very well. We both had the ice kiss our bum once and by the time we had finished we were flying.
T'was a great afternoon!
